Chocolat is going to York 23rd November

The date is close enough now to let you know that I gave Chocolat to Dolls House and Miniature Scene magazine to use in some way at the the York show in November so keep your eye out for it at their stand.

York is truly one of my very favourite shows:  here's a link telling you about it

Goodbye 1/12ths

I need to return my workroom back to a spare bedroom so I have decided I can't continue with 1/12th doll housing.  I am a tidy freak and there is no where else in our small house where I can work on this stuff without it looking untidy all the time.  It isn't too big a wrench because, unlike most other people, I don't keep my houses when they are done.  Our house just isn't big enough to display doll's houses hither and yon, so when I start a new one I have to sell its predecessor: selling The Willows half done is just sort of like having to sell it a bit early!

I hope to continue in the hobby and carry on going to shows and writing for DH & MS magazine but I shall be working in Quarter Scale (1/48th).  Fingers crossed it grabs me.

My starting project is a bit of a challenge for folk who know what they are doing - nothing like jumping in at the deep end.  Take a look at:  The Gatehouse and follow me there if you want to see how I get on.

Meanwhile The Willows has gone to a lady who is organising her own doll's house fair this month and it will be  on show there as a work in progress and will be completed and brought back next year to show the finished project.  If you can possibly get to Rochdale on 25th August do try to support her (and her husband's) hard work.  It sounds as if it will be fun.

Just a little something

I visited the Orlando show for a three day weekend; took a class and did some shopping and worked a little.  If you want to know about it you need to go to the Dolls House Show blog.

I wrote a profile on Clara's Cuties a while ago and have since been an utter fan of her work but (other than a pair of shoes) I've not owned a floral piece.  It was time to change this so I bought some lovely daffodils for Chocolat.

Sarasota Show

I have had one magpie sitting on all my properties now for three years and it occurred to me I needed two - one for sorrow, two for joy!   Joy was unbounded when I 'found' my magpie lady at the Sarasota show.  Rule number one in mini shopping always, always note where you got something!

So here's Barbara Meyer of Mini-Gems lovely creation:

Click on her site she will have something you want even if you don''t know what it is right now.

Boxing Day thought

(7 March 2014:  Did a bit of an edit on this as things changed)

Just in case you find yourself here for the first time I thought I'd let you know how my blogs work.  I have one for each project.  Some are sold (!), some are finished and some are just ideas with maybe some bits of collecting being done for them;  but there will always be one blog with a project in process.

I do one 'build' in the summer when I am in the UK and plan and buy stuff for it in the winter when I am in the USA.

At the time of writing my 2013 summer project was Chocolat.  That project is finished and will appear in a series of articles in Dolls House & Miniature Scene magazine next year.  It will be probably be sold in the summer of 2014 to make room for the new 1/12th.  It might get an extra year with me as my 2014 project is only quarter scale so it has room.   My house won't take more than two 1/12ths - one finished and one on the go.

I am now in Naples in Florida for the winter and other than the Dolls House Shows  blog there really isn't a current one running until I get back to the UK, though I do dip in and out of blogs now and then if something appropriate turns up.

Look out for the hive of activity starting at the end of March in my  Gate House  blog.
